As a Music Teacher, Director, or Professor, you have the incredible opportunity to share your love of music with the next generation of musicians. To be able to see them progress on a daily basis and help them to achieve their musical dreams must be tremendously fulfilling for you.
How would you feel if a student you had mentored and helped to grow musically finally had the opportunity to audition for the college or job of their choice, but was unsuccessful due to tinnitus or hearing loss?
The conditions that make this scenario possible is exactly what is happening right now. Study after study is now showing that middle school, high school, and collegiate musicians are being diagnosed with serious hearing loss impacting their future.
As you know, noise induced hearing loss most often occurs over time, and happens when we are exposed to sound levels in excess of 85 decibels. The US Center for Disease Control and OSHA both list noise induced hearing loss as an epidemic in America. This is because as loud sounds enter our inner ear, they slowly kill the hair like cells that convert sound waves into electrical impulses.
Average noise measurements in middle school and high school band and orchestra programs are in excess of 110 decibels on a daily basis (120 decibels is considered the threshold for pain). Collegiate programs are higher and in the 115 decibel range. Marching band measurements are even higher and can exceed 130 decibels.
There is a solution!
Earplugs For Kids provides a comprehensive system to protect kids from hearing loss. We want them to be able to hear and play beautiful music for their entire lifetime. Our custom fit Musician’s Earplugs are the centerpiece of our program. They are not a one-size-fits-all product, as your student’s ears are different from anyone else’s, and the only hearing protection that works is one that is used and fits correctly. They are custom fit and offer multiple interchangeable filters for each and every musical environment.
